Cisco is hiring a Software Engineer for its Platform Independent Common (PI-Common) team in Bengaluru. This role focuses on developing high-performance, platform-independent system software that powers Cisco's flagship routers and switches.
As a Software Engineer, you will work on routing protocols, networking infrastructure, distributed systems, and system-level software development using C/C++. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to build networking technologies used across enterprise, cloud, AI infrastructure, and service provider environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop features, enhancements, and defect fixes for routing protocols and infrastructure.

Build and maintain high-performance system software using C/C++ in a Unix/Linux environment.

Debug software using logs, traces, packet captures, and core files, and perform root cause analysis.

Develop unit, regression, functional, and scalability tests for robust control-plane modules.

Collaborate with hardware, platform, and QA teams, and participate in design discussions and code reviews.
Eligibility Criteria
Core Competence Required
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Networking. You must possess 1–3 years of experience in Software Development, System Programming, or Networking Software infrastructure.
*Preferred Qualifications: Exposure to routing protocols (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP), knowledge of IPC and memory management, experience with distributed systems, and familiarity with debugging tools like GDB.*
